Activities/Resources

Children have access to sand and water play; a creative area with collage, painting and drawing; modelling with dough, clay and recycled materials; a role-play area with dressing-up clothes and puppets; construction equipment both small and large; small world play, musical instruments; puzzles and mathematical equipment; computers; a book area with comfortable chairs, a tape recorder for taped stories; a writing area with a wide range of resources for the encouragement of early writing and regular cooking sessions.

We make full use of our outside environment including the extensive grounds of Woodside School all year and in all weathers.

The nursery day is carefully structured to provide a balance of planned individual, small and large group activities, to meet the needs of all children and a time when children plan for their own activities, to encourage them to become independent learners, using the resources with confidence and purpose.

Children arrive in their home base and are greeted by their Key Person. After they have registered and been welcomed by staff, children will move into their small group activity which has been carefully planned by staff.  All children will experience a literacy and numeracy small group activity each week.  After small group time children are able to choose indoor and outdoor activities which have been planned by adults to cover the seven areas of learning of the Early Years Foundation Stage.

After tidy up time children return to their home base to recall with an adult what they have been learning during session.

There will also be daily phonic work, story and songs at the end of session.
